Personal Recommendations:

This hike can be one of the most rewarding hikes you do. There's a good campsite at the saddle (2.3 miles in) that most likely doesn't have a water source depending on the time of year. A simple one night overnight backpack trip would be ideal. You can hike Big House on day 1 to catch the sunset and then watch the sunrise from the summit of Little House before your return trip. Very few people know about this hike, and yes its steep, but the amazing 270 degree views at the top are worth it.
